Trigger Point Therapy

There are various Remedial Massage clinics in Perth that focus on Trigger Point Therapy.  Many clients request this type of treatment approach. Hence GittaLife also incorporates this technique into most treatment sessions.

Trigger Points

So called 'Trigger Points' are areas of hyper-irritability in the soft tissue structure. Usually they present as a nodule within a taut muscle band and also are located in soft tissues. These include skin, ligaments, tendons or even scar tissue. Hence the  the therapist is examining these during the Trigger Point Therapy session. In addition, trigger points also manifest in tight fascia around muscle structures. These are so-called Myofascial Trigger Points.

Function

It is relevant that trigger points control the state of contraction. Hence people often refer to them as 'knots'. A trigger point can be acute and therefore be painful. Consequently, if it is latent, a patient will only notice it as soon as the therapist applies pressure onto the area.

Trigger points act similar to the trigger on a gun. It sends out a bullet that consequently causes pain at a distant target site. If it is stimulated with pressure,  an active trigger point can cause muscle spasm and referred pain at a site far away from the stimulus

Trigger Point Technique

This type of therapy is addressing trigger points in the fascia as well as in the muscle structures. Therefore the practitioner applies a firm digital pressure. She is then able to locate the specific points causing pain and restricting movement. It is most noteworthy, that trigger points often exist in places different to where the client actually feels the pain.
